Why the Purple Ringer does not sell Spice, K2, Mr. Nice Guy, etc., continued

As of this morning 3 Cape Coral teenagers have been hospitalized after smoking "herbal incense", generally known as "spice". We've been told of more instances of vomiting, racing heart rates, and hospital admissions where the user didn't tell the ER about their spice use. Many of the original brand names are now counterfeited and no matter what the label says, it contains drugs (usually from China) that have not been evaluated in humans and may be contaminated with solvents like acetone.

Wait, it gets better: the new products from the Spice Dealers are little packets labeled as plant food or bath salts that are intended to be snorted as synthetic methamphetamine and synthetic cocaine. Already available at some Lee County gas stations. This is pretty much a bad idea, yes?

Today's Google News search for "smoking herbal incense" yields pages of health problems, communities banning the substance, and arrests for burglaries or public intox. 14 states have now made it illegal; it's been illegal in Amsterdam over 2 years.

Again, one of our regular customers who is a DOCTOR told us almost a year ago, DO NOT USE THIS STUFF IF:
1) you have any heart or lung problems
2) you're on any other medications, including over the counter products
3) you're nursing, pregnant, or may become pregnant, or
4) you tend toward anxiety, paranoia, or addictive behavior.

Lab tests are now available, home tests not yet. Polk County FL Sheriff will arrest you for selling or distributing "counterfeit controlled substance". Some jurisdictions are arresting users for "inhalant abuse".

This is a summary of what we tell people in the shop and on the phone about 25 times a day these days. If you're over 18 by all means, do what you want to do. Our point is parents should know what's out there and users should know this is NOT a natural substance as some salespeople will tell you.

Symptoms reported to us in person include: vomiting, seizures, crazy headaches, joint pain and muscle stiffness, vision blackouts for 3-10 seconds, addiction, job loss, hallucinations, racing heart rate, heart attack, really bad withdrawals, paranoia, panic attacks, general anxiety, personality change with long-term use, and one guy who had an itchy rash on his torso for 3 days.
